The Pays de la Loire is a region of Western France that covers 5 departments: Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire (often referred to as Anjou), Mayenne, Sarthe and Vendée. Wrapped round the western end of the River Loire and with both deep countryside and Atlantic beaches, this is one of France’s prettiest and most diverse regions. The major cities are Nantes, the regional capital, medieval Angers, and Le Mans, known around the world for motor sport.

In the Pays de la Loire, variety is the major draw for visitors from around the world. From the past, there are royal chateaux and grand manor houses, medieval towns and pretty villages; from the present, art and architecture, contemporary and world music, fun theme parks and outdoor activities that it is no wonder that the Loire area between Saumur and west of Angers is even part of UNESCO.
